Just wondering which would be the best to book if these were the only two available. I notice #6 is directly above the pool so may be noisier or less private. #7 looks like it is a bit jammed between the centre tower of Playa Caribe and the south tower of Luna Azul. Can you hear people walking in the rooms above? We have stayed in Luna Azul before - how do the two properties compare? Thanks!

Those buildings are solid concrete. I've stayed there several times and never had a noise issue.

I have stayed at PC several times and I have been lucky enough to see the inside of all of them. #7 is one of the nicest ones as far as "decorations". It's really lovely inside. It is on the 3rd floor. You are correct that the view from the balcony is somewhat limited because of the centre tower at PC and Luna Azul which is very close. I don't think that would bother me though as you can still see straight out. And there is no possibly way you could hear people walking in the rooms above ... like Panesh says they are solid concrete.

I don't recall much about #6 except that it is on the 2nd level and the balcony would be "framed" by the centre tower and the abandoned house next door - that would not bother me either. If I had to choose between the two I would probably go with #7 because I prefer a higher floor. We always stay in #12 which is top floor, south side. It is a LOT of steps to stay on the top floor though.

I've never stayed at Luna Azul so I can't compare the insides. PC has a pool, LA does not. But because there is no pool at LA, they have more room on the beach for palapas and lounges. You can drink the water from the tap at PC. At LA I think you use the big water cooler jugs. Honestly you can't go wrong with either of those complexes so I think you are safe either way!

We've stayed in almost every unit at Playa Caribe, and enjoyed both 6 and 7. You can't lose either way. Staff is terrific, the pool is handy, the Bay is steps away, and you are close to town and the lagoon. Enjoy!

We were interested in #6 because the MBR balcony looks out over the garden of the abandoned house next door and has a lot of bird activity. Also one less set of stairs. But the owner is using it when we are there so we have # 8, centre, third floor. For a month. Wahoo!

Have stayed in #6 and didnt have noise or privacy issues because of the pool.

I like the center ones as the views are not as obstructed. (have stayed in #9 which is lovely)

Eight rocked for us in May!
Seven will give you a great view of sunrise and is really well decorated.
Casita Maria was perfect for a week in August.
Pool is my fav on the block.
Midway market a stones throw away and The Corner Store not far away either.
La Buena Vida and La Lunita are about the same distance away.
Bikes or a cart is the way to roll.
Bikes afforded us lunches in the pueblo. Cart wouldn't'get you there.

HMB is just so sweet.

Better get working on a new ticker....

Being a lizarder, I like the view of the abandoned house next door because it has one of the highest concentrations of iguanas in all of Akumal.

Iggy sighting is guaranteed!

Just one factor to consider, of course.

Thanks for all your comments! Looks like we may go with #6. For those of you who have stayed there, can you look straight through to the front from the master bedroom? How is the water pressure/hot water? Any other info on #6 would be welcome. Thanks again!

The water is amazing. You can drink it straight from the tap. They have a state of the art reverse osmosis system. Great pressure and no worries.
We'll be spending a few weeks there after our trek to Guatemala.

I was going to pm this link to you...but you have your pm's turned off.

This is a trip report I did a few years ago. http://forums.locogringo.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1208582&mpage=1&key=PLAYA%2CCARIBE I thought we stayed in #6, but actually it was #9 which is one floor higher....but on the same side to the left. The floor plan layout would be the same.

The center condos have the master bedrooms on the ocean side. The side units have the masters facing the back. (which is nice because you can sit on that deck as watch and listen to the life in the jungle. Not sure what you mean by looking through?

Water pressure is great.
Only major issue I've had at Playa Caribe (I've stayed there twice) is the internet being down the entire 10 days I was there last year. Hopefully that's now resolved. But that can happen anywhere.

I hope this helps. I know it's tough making decisions but any condo in Playa Caribe is lovely. You really can't go wrong. Have a great one.

Thanks SchnauzerDog. By looking through I meant that in some condos we've stayed in you can open doors or shutters from the master bedroom and see straight through the living area to the ocean views. The thing that concerns me about the second level #6 is how much of an eyesore it may be looking at that abandoned building next door. It is tough making a decision because holidays are expensive and you want to make sure to pick the right place!

Yes, there are shutters from the master opening into the main living area which beyond shows the deck and ocean.
I wasn't aware of the abandoned building until I got there (they do a good job editing it out on their website LOL) but it really wasn't an issue to me. (it most certainly wont' ruin your vacation) Lots of lizards as Tomas says.

Hi Dee--I don't know what your dates are, but when we were at PC in August, Luna Azul was having its rebar replaced. It was completely closed and the workers weren't moving very fast. Maybe someone here knows when it will reopen. They were shooting for Nov. 1 when I asked in August.

Playakath--The owner of #7 is an interior decorator. #6 is lovely, too.

Fidget--Your bird list is impressive!

SchnauzerDog--We did have some horrible wi-fi problems when you stayed at our condo #5 in Feb. 2011. After that, the owners made wi-fi service the priority and we have had no problems that I know of since then.

K and K--Please send me those pix you promised of us snorkeling!

Tomas--Yes, iguana sightings are not rare at Playa Caribe.

Dee--You will have no trouble with water pressure and hot water. If there is a problem, tell Agustiin immediately. In fact, if anything doesn't work well in the condo, tell Agustin.

Panesh--Thanks for bringing up the reverse osmosis system and being able to drink the water right from the tap.

To all--Regarding the abandoned building, there is nothing we can do about it. It is owned by Cori (sp?) who built it and Playa Caribe. He does not own any part of PC now, but he has been very obstinate and will not let us do anything to improve the looks of the wall by the pool. The foundation of his house was destroyed by Hurricane Wilma and he is hoping to sell his building and two other lots next to it. If someone knows more, please add to this.

Have a wonderful stay at #6, Dee. If you have more questions, I will be happy to answer them.
Annie

We were at PC on 10/17. Stayed in #12 (for the third time). The WIFI was working great. And I would be shocked if Luna Azul was done by 11/1. They had it all torn up - windows all torn out. Seemed to be working on the font/back/sides of that building. NOisy!

Does anyone have news on whether Luna Azul has completed their work? Just curious. They were were working so slowly in August and PK said it was still being repaired in October.
