Hi all. We'd like to take a colectivo to Dos Ojos but don't know how far in off the highway the entrance is. Does anyone know? Thanks.

We are also interested in going to Dos Ojos but was thinking of taking a taxi. anyone know how much a taxi (outside the gates of ABR) would charge us? We'll be there first week in November.

One more Dos Ojos question for those in the know........Is the road leading to it well-maintained enough for a rental car, and is there enough parking for one?  Thanks!

The road is not bad and a rental car should be able to make it with no problem. There is plenty of parking at the cenotes. It is not a road you are going to set speed records on.
The last time we took a taxi out there it was about $30 American dollars and the driver stayed and took us back for that price. It is something that you can negotiate but I would definately have them stay and take you back. Catching another taxi if yours leaves may be very hard.

Judi we diid a tour with the dive shop right beside the CEA for 50 bucks... included dive lights and guide. If you have a few people in your party it might be benifical to rent a car for the day.

@Tammi, yes the road is good ... not a prob for rental.

We drove a rent car right up to Dos Ojos, and I do not remember it being very far off 307, Maybe 1/2 mile? Go for it you will enjoy it. Easy572

The Cenote is 2.7 KM (1.67 miles) from 307... its a biotch in the heat.. Please egnore Easy572's recollection below.

Some great information can be found here: http://cenotesoftherivieramaya.com/5-6-sisdosojos.htm

We took the Collectivo to the entrance and walked in. It felt like more than 1.67 miles, but it wasn't too hot. They try to sell you the "bat cave" tour and a guide at the entrance, but we didn't buy any of it and we had a great time. There are lockers at the cenote. I bring a shorty wetsuit because I get cold in the cenotes.

Thanks for the replies. Since Dos Ojos is quite far off the road can you suggest other cenotes where the entrance is fairly close to the highway. Trying to save money by using colectivos so not really interested in taking a cab. Have been to Hidden Worlds so don't need that info. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Here is a link I recently found that gives a good description of area cenotes. Cenotes

One of my favorites is El Jardin del Eden and it is easy access. It was the first cenote we ever visited. Lori
