Friends went there, said snorkeling is excellent. They liked the food but they are very simple when it comes to there tastes. I was looking at Coz and Saw Iberostar cozumel cheaper which would be my pick for Cozumel.

I've been to the Iberostar twice and loved it! Unfortumately it's $500-600 more for our dates... Not in the budget for this year. ABR is $200 more struggling with the decision.

That's the place I'm looking at for fall 2013!!! DH wants ocean view and from what I can tell the IB doesn't really give that - I know not what your post was asking, the reviews on TA are all over the place from fantastic to freakin gross............

Kwing I posted a question on TA and was a little more comforted by the response I got. Sounds a little like the ABR so I think we'll give it a whirl. We'll just plan to eat out some to break it up a little.

I loved the IB and we had a room that you could view the water from the balcony (8413 and 8313 I believe). There are only two maybe three buildings (and then only top two rooms facing the beach) in which you can see the water from the balcony but definatelly not from in your room... certianly couldn't hear the waves.

The snorkeling is good. We only did a day pass year before last, but I thought the food was on par with ABR.

Kind of bland, but I loved that you could order off the menu at the beachside buffet if you wanted.

Drinks were weak, but I am sure if we had been there longer we would have gotten that worked out.........

The pool area was a lot more crowded than at ABR, but the rooms were nicer.

That is my impression from a day pass visit.

Thanks Crunch. We don't drink alot mixed drinks and you can't really screwup a draft Dos XX so not so worried about the booze. We just can't find anything else even close to comparable other then the Sabor which honestly doesn't sound like it's for us. Even doing non AI on the beach (which is what I wanted) is only about 50 bucks less so one dinner at the El Coz even if we eat out the rest of the time would pay for itself.... So looks like I am pulling the trigger... Just going to have to shoot for the ABR another year....

I think you will be happy with your choice. The location is wonderful. Nice little beach with some really good snorkeling. You can also visit Playa Azul beach club which is very near and snorkel from there and Buccanos too. All very close and with good snorkeling.

If you want you could spend a day at Chankkanab which has wonderful snorkeling (especially around the dolphin prison).

We had wanted to go to El Cozumeleno for some time and finally made the trip a little over a year ago. As others have said, the snorkeling is great. Nice beach area. Hope they have some additional chairs on the beach as it was a little crowded when we were there. Rooms were very nice and the view was great. We had a room on the 7th floor and it was nice to sit out on the balcony morning and night to watch the cruise ships come and go.
We enjoyed the food. The main buffett is on the water and is an open air like ABR. They have one speciality restaurant that we ate at every night. Food was good and it was a little more upscale than the sit down restaurant at ABR. Long pants required as I remember.

For a great drift snorkel at El Cozumeleno, walk South (left as you face the water) and go down to the place that used to be Club Caribe and now is a condo and zip line place. At the South end of the property there is a ramp and ladder to enter the water. From there you can go with the current all they way back to El Cozuleno. Lots of fish and things to see.

We stayed at the El Cozumeleno three or so years ago. We really liked it. I've been watching for an opportunity to go back. Every time I see a really good deal, we are already booked to go some place else. :)

I thought the food was a bit better than the last time we stayed at the ABR. We really enjoyed the restaurant. When we were there, the menu changed every couple of days. Get the Baked Alaska if they still have it. The snorkeling was pretty good. Not as many corals as at the ABR, but I saw lots of rays and some fish that I never saw in front of the ABR.

Our room was on the 8th floor, we could lie in our bed and watch the cruise ships sailing by. We had an end room with the smaller balcony, but it was still very nice. View was great.

Forgot to mention that I did a review on TA. If you want to read it, look for the review from MissKittyNemo.
