Last time I walked around San Miguel, quite a few blocks inland, I saw a bus running north south. Seemed to be full of locals. Anyone know of this bus and what's its route? Can anyone get on?

ORIGINAL: crunch So Reef, about what is the cheapest rate you have been able to get at El Cantil and who do we have to know? Because Tomas and I have always desired to spend a few nights at the beginning of a trip there and never gotten a rate we could come close to being able to afford. Maybe you should just buy one and give us all an LG discount............. LOL! Sorry, but unless I win lotto, no condo purchase anywhere for me this year... if or when, where ever it is, I don't think I'd make be doing rentals. But you'd be welcome to come visit. I don't think I'm getting anything different then anyone else gets offered, but keep in mind that what's available anywhere usually depends on when you travel, who you book with, how far in advance you book, how long you're staying, how flexible you are, how you're paying, etc., etc. A few days during a high season time, unless there's a cancelation or it's last minute and someone really wants a renter, that's going to be tough to find anything anywhere for less than the posted nightly rate. I've gotten lucky with taking over a last minute cancelation, and sometimes we've moved units during our stay when there wasn't one open for the duration. I don't book that far in advance, and if it is high season I have the flexibility usually to look for weeks that aren't that booked up. Rates I've seen on units at Na Ha are about on par with rates listed for El Cantil, maybe $20-50 less for a week at Na Ha, but you're easily spending that or more on taxis or gas & parking to go into town in the evenings for the week. Peninsula Grand I've seen quite a bit lower rates, and most of the older buildings are lower too. But back to the $300... I've never paid a rate for a one or two bdrm rental at El Cantil that came out to $300/nt. Unless I just had to be someplace over a holiday week, there's no way I would pay that anywhere I've stayed in Mexico... and come to think of it, I can't see myself ever being able to justify prices like that just because it's Christmas. Not like they condo suddenly upgrades everything... same bed, same kitchen, same pool. All that changes is there's more people. So you're paying more to be around a crowd of people. I think that's why I'm usually on a plane home sometime between Dec 21-24.

Anyone can take the bus. I forget how many there are and what their routes are. The cost is $7 pesos. There are also colectivo's that run through town.

ORIGINAL: starjazz Not to totally hijack (Hey Fun!!), but are there beaches on the island, or is it pretty much all iron shore? Places to stay with beaches? Hey Star, come down and join us in December! Oh, how we'd love to!! Had a great time with you guys that (proverbial) night in Akumal. This year, we're taking a trip to the Holy Lands for our vacation, but we'll be getting back down there soon.
