AnchorBob and I just drove about 1500 miles through Mexico from the Texas border, through 13 Mexican states (I think) - Coahuila, San Luis Potosi, Guanajuato, Querertero, Txcala, Hidalgo, Puebla, Veracruz, Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche and Quintana Roo - and we didn't have any problems. This is our fifth trip in and we've NEVER had any problems, other than getting lost, a shakdown ticket once in Tampico, and finding a hotel in the rain that would let us take the dogs But we lived to tell about all of these! The places that you are planning on taking your aunt are all on the beaten path - just be smart, be careful, follow the speed limit and you won't have any problems. If you do break down or something, people will stop to help you and the Green Angels patrol the roads frequently. You can call emergency 066 from any cell phone but you will need to be able to speak some Spanish because the operator might not know any English. Don't drive at night - we even avoid driving on 307 at night but it is safe. Enjoy the ride and the scenery - you will get to see parts of Mexico that you would never get to see otherwise... just be careful going in and out of poblados (towns) because there will be topes and some are marked and others aren't. Good luck and have fun! Buen viaje!
