So, longing for Mexico I realized I never finished my trip reports with an actual ending.

Our last couple days were very rainy.  We were still able to make it up the beach to our 'spot' at CRT and enjoyed many lovely libations from the bar and also our purchase of 3xDon Julio which we managed to finish by our last day.  We ended up most evenings around 9pm ish in the room just vegging and watching TV.  This would not be my choice at all.  I would prefer to be on the beach until 1am listening to the waves and being forced back to my room at the latest possible moment each night.  However, my fiancee works 7 days a week, 12 hours a day on his feet.  So, it being his vacation too.....this is the ending of the day that I guess made him most happy.

Shoot, I didn't even get to eat 'dinner' the last two nights.

The last day of our vacation was the 27th and I had deliberately picked the latest flight I could get and paid a bit more to do it that way.  Our departure flight was 5:27pm.  On the morning of our last day, we went to breakfast as usual and stopped by the front desk to ask for a late check out.  They told us no, we could not check out late bcuz the room was booked for that afternoon (how is that for depressing....the stark realization that someone ELSE will be taking over our room and WE have to go HOME).  My fiancee was a bit disgusted because they wouldn't budge (we only wanted a 1pm ck out...not that late).  After breakfast, we stopped by and asked again and got a totally different answer.  This time, he said it was fine and was like $10 fee to do it.  So, we were all set.  We were sad though, I don't mind telling you.  However, we had 3 full hours left to go to the beach and do a bit of our routine and still have time to go back to the room and shower and finish packing.

Sadly so sadly, it was just a super rainy day that would not let up.  Cold even.  We went up to our spot and laid out our towels and got in the ocean, only to find ourselves being attacked and wrapped in seaweed from the storm the night before.  It was impossible to navigate there was so much seaweed.  The waves were also so harsh they were pulling off my bikini bottoms and smacking me so hard in the abs I felt like I was being sucker punched....between those issues and the cold I gave up and went back to lay on my towel.  I am cold natured, so when I say cold I don't mean literally cold.....I mean overcast and cool breeze and I am wet....so I am cold.  Then, it started to rain.  We had only been in our spot for 20 minutes....

So we made a RUN for it and got back to the resort/bar area and ordered a couple shots......I felt 'full' but fiancee ordered us a couple mojitos and asked the bartender for strawberry flavored.  The bartender looked genuinely....confused....like he did not know what we were asking for nor how to make it.  Then he finally thru up his hands, smiled, and said you know what?  I will figure it out. Moments later....we had our drinks and went over to the 'chill out' area to 'chill out.' Dang!  He really hooked up really great strawberry mojito's.

If you live in the DFW area, try Ana Mia's.  They have the BEST drinks.  The margarita swirls are our favorite and truly very strong.  However, their mojito is a thing of beauty.  They actually put elbow grease into the 'muddle' of the mint and add real sugar cane and use fresh strawberries.  OMG delicious.  Also, very strong.  Not overly sweet.  Their dishes we love are their fish tacos, fajita quesadillas and nachos especial.  The nachos especial has a spicy chicken on it that is quite addictive.

Anyway, back to the trip report.  We inched our way back to the room, showered and packed....moved to the front lobby area for meeting USA Transfer.  We were sad.  I am sad just thinking about it.  LOL.  That was two months ago dangit.  I gotta plan another trip soon.  This is killing me.

USA Transfer was precisely on time, can't say enough good things about them.  I requested the service on the phone and the girl that booked me was exceptional, as well, in her customer service skills.

The airport check in and security checkpoints sort of went surprisingly fast; although, we really felt like cattle at auction with all that undressing.....scanning......taking everything apart and putting it back together.   After cking bags and security, we went to the duty free and got 5 bottles of 1.75 Milagro to take home, joking that we would finish one within 24 hours due to deep depression.  We were starving and ate at 'Jonny Rockets' and it was horrible.  Cold greesy burgers for nearly $40.

When boarding finally commenced, I got 'chosen' to get the extra special search and got man handled and had my dirty laundry all taken apart and left for me to put back together again.  This flight wasn't that bad, just always depressing to leave.

When we arrived at IAH, Houston, you'd have thought we had plenty of layover at 2 hours.  No.  Not at IAH.  I hate that airport.  They warned us upon arrival to hurry and get to the check point bcuz there was about to be a shift change and we would wait extra long!  Then some ding dongs in front of us in line let a bunch of people in front of them because they were pals.  Again, we went thru the exhaustive effort of getting the bags, repacking with the duty free liquor which barely fit....going back thru multiple security checkpoints.....and catching the airtram to get way across the airport to our gate on time.  Two hours:  barely made it.  Then once we are there we realize we still aren't there.  Our gate was something weird like B42A.  It is at the end of a maize and tunnel and you feel like you are in the ghetto.  This was United folks.  After all that rushing, sweating they didn't board on time at all.  They were about an hour late.  Then when we did board, there were like 25 employees just standing around holding up the walls and ask we go out on the actual tarmac, a girl announces that we have to take our own luggage out on the tarmac and load it up on the cart ourselves....???????????  It was pitch black, about 11pm at night and there were NO lights out there.....and multiple carts.  And if you read my prior reports you know, I had sustained an injury to my elbow (upon my return I went to the orthopedist and ended up that now I am wearing two casts....so I was in a lot of pain to be loading my own blankety blank luggage on the cart.

The final flight into DFW was uneventful except for the people behind us.....strangers telling strangers their life stories....something I don't understand.

Our shuttle to our car came quickly enough. Upon driving home we agreed we were starving but nothing was open and we were too tired to care.   There was no where to park at our apt complex either.  We still had to get ALL those bags up the stairs.  Which, we finally did.  We passed out and both had the next day off to recover.  That part was nice.  We did get take out from AnaMia's and drank our Milagro and toasted to another great vacation.

The End.

Wow - kind of a harsh last day. And I am going to try neve to go through Houston! We had the rainiest vacation ever this year too so I know what you meant. It was nuts.

And yet here we both are just pining to go again!

I always hate that last day! Not sure I would take a flight that late tho, hubby has to work the day we return.... And we came back thru Houston last ime, it was the worst experience EVER! Going back thru security was exhausting there, almost as bad as it used to be going thru O'Hare right after 9/11 when they first tightened security. Houston really needs to figure out a different system, we'll pay extra to avoid them!

Sorry your last day was such a bummer, but on the other hand, a perfectly beautiful day would have been even harder to leave. I enjoyed your reports, thanks. Makes a day a work a little bit more fun reading about our favorite places and brings back many memories. Thanks again
Gwen

Thanks for your trip report - I enjoyed it.

The last day is always tough, though yours sounds tougher than most.

Good luck with booking your next trip!
