Hello fellow LG'ers. We're impatiently awaiting our trip to the GP and I have a question. Is the beach there rocky enough to need water shoes? Many thanks---

There have been a few days there where I wish I brought them simply for water entry - other days it's soft and free of rocks, tide depending

Been to GP many times and never needed water shoes, there are many places along the beach with nice sandy entrances.

I love water shoes no matter where I go really. I am funny that way with things, even sand, under my feet. Super handy if you are going to the cenotes!

You will need them if you plan to snorkel off White Sand beach as it has a shallow reef. My friends love the deeper snorkeling off Kantenah. One of my friends wears water shoes there, one does not, I never wear water shoes but you will need flip flops or some footwear to walk to the salt water pool to the south.

It really does seem to depend on the time of day and what the weather has been like recently. Last October the entry to the Kantenah side was a little rocky some days, but not severe. I also noticed rocks in the dry part of the sand while walking along the White Sand side. I brought water shoes with me but ended up not using them because the rocks weren't bad at all.

You guys are all the best!!! Thanks. It is 107 with no breeze here in Tulsa as I type this, and hubby seems determined that we are going to move to the RM. Seriously. Or maybe he is just delirious from the heat...

Never leave home without water shoes....you won't regret it and even if you feel you don't need them, you will have them just in case!

I don't even own water shoes any more. Had them at one time and never used them.

But then I grew up in Fla. running around barefoot. That may have something to do with it...

Picked up neoprene paddling socks to go in my fins as they were slipping off, but since the first trip I ditched the fins and use the socks. They help a bit with momentum but are great for getting in and out of the water. Also never have to worry about fins hitting the coral which I would hate to do even accidentally.
And I think they're only about $12

I've taken mine for the last umpteen trips, and they come back unused. I'm not taking them next time. I'll probably wish I had them.

I never used them to get into the water, I used them more for the long walks around the resort. After a while the hard cement and pathways take their toll on bare feet. After a couple long hauls from one end of the resort to the other in bare feet....I never left them in the room again. Of course flip-flops will suffice as well. Once I was on the beach, I was barefoot with no problems all week.

Same here. Three trips to GP and never needed water shoes. But we do hang out at the north end of the resort.

Bring your snorkel gear though. Decent snorkeling along that northern beach!!!
