Honestly... Big tarps work the best. We have made some really long slip and slides on hills. Doug... This is funny ...

How does Monday May 6th sound for the auction date?? I won't be there until Tuesday the 30th and I presume the beach crawl will be on either Wednesday or Thursday that week and Friday the 3rd is "Best Shirt" contest day at Lol Ha during happy hour and I plan on being there to win it this year!!! hehehe.
Plus one or two days is just a bit too short of notice to arrange everything with ABR management. I will shoot for the 6th if you all agree!!

I had a idea today. Why not create our own Moonrise bar for AASB2013.

Unfortunately folks, due to all the uncertainty and unknowns regarding ABR and AASB 13 in general, I have made a decision to CANCEL the silent auction at AASB 13.
To be honest I am not even completely certain if I will actually be staying in the immediate area at the  time. So considering how much time, work and expense it takes to set up an auction I will not be hosting one in 2013.

I am sorry that the library and all our generous supporters have become the unwitting victims in this saga but we will find some way to survive and move on.

I truly apprciate everyones past support and assisstance in staging the previous events, and hopefully when the sand settles in a year or two we can get back to holding these most anticipated and highly successful events.

Absolutely Dung or you can even become a Library Angel and give a set amount each month via Pay Pal as well. We do appreciate every penny that you all choose to donate to the cause, and it is put to good use.

Thanks for mentioning that point.

I'm starting to look at airfare now for end of April

We will find a new place if it must be but may stay at ABR for some of the time

Trying to decide on side trips now- may rent a car

Hi all, I know we are all sad about the Moonrise ...but we can all still have fun together. No... it will not be the same... but I know we will have some darn good laughs and good times. Lets just move down in front of the snack bar area or something. I would really miss seeing you all this year. Lets just make the best of it. Purdy please? After just going to cozumel with some of the gang.... I really realized it is many of you who make it special. I would miss you all if we are not together.Or pick another special place?

Brenda,
I agree with ya, it's all about the great people around you that make for a great vacation but do to all the construction that will be going on and "NO MOONRISE" I'm thinking of looking for another special place for this year and returning to ABR the following year when it's finished. Maybe we could try the Catalonia Royal Tulum AI in Xpu Ha....it's been a while since I was there but from what I remember there was good snorkeling from shore and the resort (CRT was called Copacabana when I stayed there) was very nice.

Peace, Bimmy
Edit.....another place I always wanted to check out is Oasis Tulum, an AI just south (around the point) from ABR.....walking distance by beach to Akumal and supposedly good shore snorkeling. Also I just saw it's at a good price.

I think Oasis Tulum is a bit like Iberostar with lots of fish by the old dock

I heard there are tons of sea urchants so entry in the water is very tricky

We stayed at Bahia one year for my son's wedding - everyone's highlight was doing a snorkel visit to Akumal so I am reluctant to stay so close to Akumal but not there

HMB might be good. But Bimmy, I agree CRT is one resort I have wanted to visit - 2 days??

But VSD, if you don't come to ABR for AASB2013, who's going to go up to whatever bar is nearby with a tray and bring us back some drinks?

I will have a pick of the CRT beach in my report.

A little crowded for me, but only in the main area. Other than that it is a drop dead gorgeous beach that you could really do some quality ambling on and the reef snorkeling was really cool. I mean gorgeous!

Crunch,
I'm glad to hear that.
It's been 10 years since I stayed there and was wondering how much abuse the reef had taken over the years. Other than the absence of turtles I thought the snorkeling was as good as Akumal Bay. Would you agree?
Peace, Bimmy

I do Bimmy. It is different tha Akumal bay in a good way. More wild and untamed.

In past years, we are lucky to get 1/2 of those staying at places outside of the Akumal area to attend LG parties - too much hassle
for them

It will likely be a quiet AASB13

BIMI: Better rent a car with all the trips you are making back to Akumal Bay for parties and fishing derbies

I've got a solution!

You should all join us in Roatan! (RASB!!) I hear the snorkeling is fabulous and the weather is wonderful.

Give ABR some time to get things sorted this spring and then plan for AAFB!

Just sayin.....

I checked the recent trip reports for ABR on TA and they are still good even with the construction.
We were at ABR for the fire in 2008 and stayed after many others left.
We were at ABR for the swine flu in 2009 when the Italians and Canadiens were all deported.
We decided to stay both years and had a great time with a smaller crowd.
So, barring any major bad reports between now and May, we will be at ABR from May 2 - 8 and having a grest time with whoever else decides to join us there.

It may be a smaller group, but I doubt that AASB 2013 will be quiet. LOL
