Ola LocoGringo Forumers! We are a thirty-something couple looking for some all-inclusive hotel suggestions for Playa Del Carmen. Hoping for the following: - Fun hotel. Should be full of activities that people actually join. Lots of volleyball etc. Great Entertainment crew. We prefer a lively atmosphere over a quiet, mellow one but not looking for the 19 year olds party hotel. - location on the beach, not off of it. Prefer walking distance to Playa del Carmen's shopping/restaurants/bars. - clean, decent food, friendly staff. If you have stayed at a place that sounds like this, please leave some suggestions or links to other posts that are similar. Thanks!!

I don't remember any volleyball at The Royal, but then again I wasn't looking. The Royal would be a great place to start looking - loved it! And it's Adults Only. Now if you don't need A/O - the Iberostar Tucan/Queztel in Playacar get consistently good reviews.

Stayed at the Playacar Palace last year and really enjoyed it. Really good beach. Close to Fifth Avenue. Located right by the ferry terminal, which made it easy to take a day trip to the Cozumel Palace. Not adult only but we were there just after Labor Day so there weren't many kids. There were activities but not overly aggressive if you don't want to paricipate. Stayed at Royal PDC three years ago. Great location just off Fifth Avenue in the middle of things. Beach wasn't as nice. Seemed to have more activities. Loved the bike tour of PDC led by a member of the entertainment team. Had a Royal Oceanview so could pick our room and check in online 24 hours in advance. Liked that -- although the top floor room we selected ended up not being available (work being done) so they put us a floor lower. Still great ocean view. Rooms at both were really nice -- comfy beds, in-room jacuzzi, fridge and mini-bar, storage (dresser in addition to the shelves in the closet).

I would second the Iberostar Quetzal/Tucan as a possibility if you aren't set on adults only....we've been there twice and since our last trip the beach has been rebuilt. Even after many trips it is still the only place I've been that has a dedicated pool for the swim up bar. Another cool thing is the jungle between the resort with lots of different wildlife including monkeys. It has good food and a fun atmosphere. The Iberostar entertainment crew is called the Star Friends and they are usually entertaining. The Riu Yucatan is just up the beach and would be another one to consider. It is about a 20 minute walk into Playa from this area (Playacar). The Royal is a different class of resort altogether. We haven't been there but it is on the list.....
