In Akumal now and my Kindles dead and I forgot to bring the charger. Anybody here got one I can use? Or know where I can buy one cheap? It's an older Kindle w the tiny USB port. I'm at VDM.

Ask around if someone has a cell charger they'll loan you, or look for one to buy. The mini USB cell charger is very common and works with the older Kindles.

That sounds like a good idea, but then we also need to talk about the importance of having a packing checklist.

not really helpful and kind of condescending. I used it for 3 weeks in Europe w/o needing to charge it so I didn't think I needed the charger.

Live and learn - my Sony reader needs to be charged more often than when it was new! Hope some one can help you out with at charger. Reading is a big part of my vacation.n elctronic store -
There is an electronic store - mostly accessories - in Tulum . Take the first right at the first rondo and it is on your left - I think the second block off the main drag.

If you can't find a charger, look for a USB cable that has the correct connectors on both ends. Then you can charge the Kindle from any computer USB port.

Do you have a car? You can buy those cables in Playa del Carmen at many stores, especially the big stores like Chedraui, Soriana, Walmart, etc. Actually, now that I think of it, the new Super Chedraui in Puerto Aventuras will have one. Pretty darn close to Akumal, so a cab ride wouldn't be too bad. Get a bottle of Tequila while you are there too :)

You could also just jump on a Collectivo... probably a buck or two for each way. Puerto Aventuras is only 16 Kilometers up the road (bout 10 minutes).

If you disable the wifi while you are just using the Kindle as a reader, that helps save on the battery life A LOT.

You should be able to find a USB charger anywhere in Akumal that someone has a computer. Check at the VDM office - they might have oen that you can borrow or rent - if not, check up at Pueblito grocery store at the arch - they have a computer / internet corner set up and might have something in there for you to use.

Good luck, have fun and enjoy your vacation!

Yep, the only time you need the cord is when you don't bring it, go figure.

I've found that I read SO much more on vacation, I don't go away even for a long weekend now without the cord.

Somewhere I once read that any decent size hotel has baskets full of cell phone/electronics chargers that were left at the hotel and that they were usually glad to give one away. I checked with a couple of hotelsand they said it's true. You might visit any of the hotels and ask at the front desk. You might get lucky.

This is true.  I've seen many of their baskets.  Someone's always looking for a charger.

I love my Kindle, but I bring a couple back up books for the plane and beach.  I keep my kindle in the condo.
