Seven days is never enough so this year we stayed ten and it flew by much to quickly as well. We were at the ABR from June 3-13 and it is still the charming place that holds our hearts. We had email requested bldg 5 top floor and were put in the ground level rooms, same as we were last year. Not a big deal as we are in the rooms only to sleep but the view from those rooms is below pool level :( The food, staff and everything was wonderful as always. My only complaint would be that the linens stink. Really, literally....stink. They never really smell clean, some days worse that others. We had six pillows in our room and they all were just awful smelly...like dirty body odor. I'm not a germ freak but there was no way i could fall asleep with my face on those pillows. I got an extra flat sheet and wrapped my pillow with it. The maid caught on and always made up our bed with my pillow wrapped in my sheet! We went to Ziggy Beach for a day, ate wonderful fish tacos and coconut shrimp on the beach and watched the kite-boarders. We took the collectivo to Playa del Carmen for some shopping one day, what a busy little town it has become. We first visited Playa back in 1980 on a day trip from Cozumel. We spent a few hours at Cenote Cristalino which was alot of fun. We rented bikes several times, went to La Buena Vida several times for drinks and dinner one time. Some in our group fished and caught a huge Mahi Mahi so La Cueva Pescador cooked it up for our bunch and it was a perfect meal. We enjoyed all the ABR evening entertainment. Their Fantasia blacklite show put on by the animation team was fun to watch. The 70's show was cute as well. There are several new animation team staff and it was fun getting to know them. They are bright, fun young adults, get to know them and you will love them just like we all love Marianne, Jeshua (and Pablo, who we still miss!) There are several bartenders being trained and it was fun messing with them while they were learning how to make our drinks! The regulars always make us feel at home! The two nights of live music in the main bar area were great nights of dancing for our group of 13. Most of our group are scuba divers and they did several great dives with Natalie & Ivan. They also did two cavern dives with Natalie Gibb who is just such a great person. We trust her completly with the safety of our four kids and she gives them the best diving experience possible. Our daughter and her fiance had hired a professional photographer to take their engagement photos one afternoon. They did the pictures all up and down Half Moon Bay and then in the Akumal Bay area. We should be getting the CD with the pics soon. They went and visited with several wedding planners and we are looking forward to our 2013 Akumal Beach Wedding Trip

I know just what you mean about the smelly linens. Im bringing my own linens and pillows this trip. I always bring an air mattress, but, have used their sheets with varying results. Sometimes they are so rough and other times not. I always spray the beds with lavender oil and water spray, and I always bring my own pillow. The maids get used to what we like, they always made the bed up with my air mattress on one side. I would put my pillow in my suitcase every morning to make sure it didn't end up mixed up with the others in the room. I've considered stopping at Walmart to pick up some pillows and leave them in the room when we check out, but, to me, it's probably the washing process that gets them smelly, so, Im not sure it would make much difference overall. Are you having the wedding at ABR? What month?

The newly engaged couple hasnt decided yet where or when! They are sort of looking at July 2013 because of several of their friends already having set June wedding dates. I am just leary of July for a beach wedding. So hot and soooooooo hurricane season! They are still trying to decide where. We all love ABR but she isnt sure that's where she wants her wedding. It gets complicated when you try to pick a date that will work out for everyone that you want there. That's where they are now.......

We had four rooms in our group and pretty much everyone said that they noticed the sheets smelling bad and pillows really awful. we have stayed there numerous times and have not had this issue before. how can there be so many nasty people crawling into bed without showering, there is a shower only ten feet from the bed! i'm not sure packing our own sheets will make it all better....the mattresses have to be gross as well. i'm not a complainer or hotel snob and i love ABR dearly but they have got to do better than this or people will start finding other places to stay.

The engagement pics came out really pretty. When I figure out how to do it, i'll post a few. They were all along Half Moon Bay and out in front of Lol Ha area. They both love Akumal so I'm sure that's where we will be planning a wedding soon. Setting the date is the problem right now. The times that work out for most of their fam & friends is July or August and we all know how rainy those months can be. It's a crap shoot on the weather. We've had a full week of rain in Akumal first week of June.
