Hey guys!

When I was visiting the Tulum ruins AND enjoying the beach there, I noticed two spots that I'd like to know about.
So can anyone tell me:
- what is this beautiful strip of beach you can see south of the ruins?
- what are the buildings you can see on the shore north of the ruins? Guess it's a hotel??

You can see the pictures there:

(could not download them here at a sufficient size)

Thanks in advance !!

To the North is Dreams Tulum Resort and Spa. To the South is El Faro Lighthouse and past that is a beach club, small hotel/resort that I can't remember the name of right now.
You can go to "To Do and SEE" section of this forum and do the aerial tour, that might help.

There are many Eco-friendly hotels south of the ruins and the funny thing is that's not even the best beach in Tulum. Can you give me any more details about what you were seeing?

@DougSR

Well, the picture was taken with a zoom from the top of the stairs descending to the beach at the ruins. It is a small strip of white sand that goes into the sea with one coconut tree in the middle, a few boats near the shore...
I've added this picture so you may have a better idea:

I would really like to go there when I go back to Tulum, I think swimming there with the ruins in the background must be awesome !

Thanks gal4giants, could be it, yes. Read bad reviews about the cabanas though lol.
You'll be in Tulum in 9 days, lucky one...

Yes, Gal4giants is correct. thank you lady, I was brain dead for the day and when you said it I knew that was the place. Very cold beer there and an awesome view...both North and South.

Lauren if you are looking for this place, go down the road to the beaches and make a LEFT and head North at the split. Go almost as far as you can and it is on the right.
Can't miss it.

I discovered Tulum ans I was not expecting a warm ambiance! People are so welcoming and you will soon feel at ease. Despite a change of scenery quickly found our bearings, as French (for English or American it's more easy !) I have not had difficulty communicating with different people. In Tulum there is a majority of Mexicans but we faced a lot of European (French, Irish, Italian, Amecrican, ...) which makes you feel better integrate. I discovered the natural reserve of Sian Ka'an, a beautiful and equally surprising I did not think that such a place home to such a marvel ! I made trips with Mexico Kan Tours helped me discover a different culture. Special mention to Frank our guide was really friendly and very comprehensive in its explanations. You could feel his desire to share the culture of the Mayas! More Mexico Kan Tours is fully respectful of nature which makes it even more enjoyable excursions !

So, just trying to understand (and I'm sure this has been answered to death but here goes anyways...): from ruins, head south, look for Cabanas Tulum (which is a hotel) and Ziggys will be right there? And I can park at the hotel and/or in a beach-side parking lot?

Yes, that's the basic idea. From the ruins, drive south on 307 to the traffic light. Turn left (east) on the Coba Road, go about 3 km to the "T". Turn right (south) and go -- I dunno -- 5 km until you see the signs for Cabanas Tulum/El Bistro/Ziggy Beach. (It's just past the relatively grandiose Ana y Jose, which you can't miss.) Aim for the spacious lot directly in front of the El Bistro/Ziggy, on the south end of the property.
