HOUSE OF CARDS PART 6 - 6/7/2012 12:14:15 PM

So the 2nd full day at the Royal, Tuesday found us at breakfast about...1020, with breakfast ceasing to be served around 1045.  This was our typical schedule and we always had plenty of time, fresh food and made to order omelets with bloody mary's and chilaquiles

We investigated the shop in the front lobby, which was lobby and had a portion of the store dedicated to......fun times you might have as a couple?  Not sure how I can put it politely.  They had no tequila except the tiny bottles and they were $10 each.  Our Milagro supply had dwindled, so we had to make a trip to PDC.

We found that the Collectivo picked up right in front of our resort every 15 minutes or so.  It was raining that morning, so we waited in the lobby receiving excellent drink service and tipping appropriately....until the rain let up.  We hadn't any more than crossed the road when the collectivo stopped and picked us up.  I had seen somewhere that the cost would be approx.$3 pp each way but found out accidentally that was too much!.  The ride worked perfectly for us, he dropped us right in PDC and we were able to find a great price for tequila (we found Don Julio one day special for $25) and I had a couple things I needed from the pharmacy.  I ran across an issue that I had not activated my chase card for INTL use (sort of forgot, but he hadn't done this for his and his worked.....so I thought what the heck).  He ended up paying cash for my stuff and we did no further shopping (we should have got a few snacks, etc)but with the rain, we just walked straight back to the collectivo and immediately caught one loading and got straight back to our hotel in no time flat.  I bet our entire round trip WITH shopping was 2-2.5 hour total.

For anyone unaware, the Catalonia Royal Tulum is not really in Tulum, it is Puerto Aventuras (sort of).....and Akumal is south of CRT and Tulum is South of that.  Anyway, the Collectivo totally changed my opinion (I had previously had them confused with ADO, which I still dislike).  I love Collectivo.  The bottom line is no different from taxi, it seems to be actually faster and more effiecient to me.....and it cost us $6 for collectivo for what a taxi was probably $45.  NUTSO!  Ha.

We returned to the resort to still rainy conditions and got cleaned up I had the foresight upon arriving starving to order room service.  He had the tuna or ckn sandwhich and I had mexican tacos.  When it finally arrived an hour or so later, the portions were SO timy we knew we had to get dressed and go to dinner.  The room service food was in fact delicious, however.

We went to the lobby for Mexican and found to our hilarity the same music 'group' that played at CPM last year.  It is a man and woman who really don't sound that bad, but their presentation is hard to take them seriously.  Particularly hers.  She looks like a prostitute standing on a corner of a really bad neighbor hood.  Now, don't take me wrong....we are at a resort where men wear speedos and women sometimes go topless.  However, if you are going to 'entertain' I think there are a ton of ways you can dress that are still sexy, age appropriate (she looks about 45 trying to dress 18)....to be fair she is a really pretty lady she just over does it.  Her hair is so bleached that it looks like it is about to fall out and appears she had maxed out the botox appts.  Not trying to be mean.  But I can't sit and watch them, they make me laugh and they are tryin to be serious.  Alot of the songs I noted passing thru, also, seemed to be music my older sis listened to 70's music.

The Mexican food was great, but by the time we got thru our entree we were full, since we had eaten already the room service 'snack.'  We had a few great drinks with our food, our service was pretty good.  We went back to the room and relaxed and watched tv till we fell asleep.

2-2 1/2 hr tequila run still leaves plenty of time for a few shots before hitting the beach and getting on with your day. Even tho we always have a rental car, I always get out voted about transportation into PDC. Collectivos get you there pretty quick, and you don't have to worry about driving, policia, bogus pullovers, and what your BAC may be at any point in time. Also let's you throw a few back while in PDC without any further thought.

I am so enjoying your report. Been to the CRT twice, once when it first opened and was called the Copacabana, and then just last year. Great resort, great times there. Keep the report coming. Living thru you, and remembering.

That sounds heavenly right about now!

Interesting what items are for sale in the shop at the resort............

How long of a walk to get the collectivo?  That sounds like such a cheap way to go to PDC.

Crunch, the distance from the front lobby of CRT to 307 is about the same as from the Moonrise Bar at ABR to the water.

Crunch --- The fun items in the lobby shop are quite interesting, and lots of pesos --- but, they are guaranteed to "tickle your fancy" !

Crunch, the store has lots of fun things..... Think, Feathers and Honey Dust, Shoulder Length nighties, very expensive clothing that you could stuff into a band aid box. Just add that to your Doctor Feel Good Bag, don't leave home without it.
Happy thoughts.

Oh and they have other fun things in the shop.....souvenirs, snacks, t shirts, sunglasses, more souvenirs......they have pretty good prices on the souvenirs.....make you question if you really need to go to PDC.  They have jewelry up there.....some unique drinks like sangria in a bottle (that I haven't seen here in a single serving size  LOL)....They have little leather bound notebooks made authentic/Mexico with little pretty designs.  They have some cover up type dresses you could wear to dinner if you did it right (under garments, shoes, jewelry, etc).  They have a few drugs for tummy aches, headaches, etc.  They have a few hand made hand bags that I thought were precious.

There is a second shop down by the pool that has an extensive line of sunscreen, swim shorts, bikinis, flip flops.

Really the most fun thing in the shop if you are willing to visit with the people working, they are SO friendly and willing to help you with any question you have.

Is the woman's name Sylvia or Sylvie? I forget his name, but if it is the same couple that used to be at ABR - I love them! They were at ABR in 2006 I think, and I was disappointed that they weren't there anymore. (I hope you didn't laugh out loud at them - that would have been mean. )

Thanks for the detailed report! We were at the Copacabana - now the CRT - way back in 2001. You're convincing me that maybe it's time to go back.

Sylvia y Lupo. I thought their repertoire could have used some updating myself, but they did try hard and it was better than listening to recorded music at 100 decibels. Found this old thread with a pic. Click on Lacey Tracey's attachment.

Yes!! Thats them!! Way, way, way better than the recorded "music" that is sometimes blasted out!

Maybe its all relative or something, because one of our neighbors is the principal of a local elementary school and she dresses EXACTLY like Sylvia. Yep, at work. (When she was merely a classroom teacher, she had the highest rate of fathers attending parent/teacher interviews. ) So, Sylvia's attire seems appropriate for what she does for a living.

First of all NO, I would never laugh out loud, visibily, because I don't care for someone's manner of dress or the way they present themselves.  My personal opinion is that the way they dress is not conducive to what they are trying to accomplish.....unless it was somewhere between 1975 and 1985.  But further than that, I can't stand their lounge music sound.  I have to conceal my  laughter around stuff like that.

Sorry I am slow to catch up and complete my reports but I have a lot of projects due and work ya know, waiting on my return

I will get it caught up.

Hahahaha! We remember Sylvia y Lupe from our old ABR days! We actually bought one of their CD's! Now, I looked and looked for it tonight and couldn't find it, so I may have actually thrown it out!

When you are blissed out and happy, in the most beautiful of places, and with those you love, EVERYTHING can seem great, even Sylvia y Lupe! Back home however, is another matter.........
