We will be staying at the Valentin Imperial Maya in late June. We will be staying in a basic suite. What building do we want to request?

We visited VIM in April this year. I sent them an email a week or so before and requested a king size bed to be in building 5 or 6. We got two double beds in building 3. My wife went down to the lobby after we got to the room and ask if we could have a king size bed somewhere. The person there said they didn't have one and ask her if we requested the bulding and bed when we checked in. He seemed to think we might have gotten it if we had made the request then. Building 3 was closer to the lobby and all the restaurants and night time entertainment. We had a great time and you won't go wrong with building 3, 4, 5, or 6 as there are short cuts to the pools, beach and the main lobby area. Nice paths to everywhere in the resort. The food there is unbelieveable all the time. The breakfast and themed lunch at the main buffett is increadable with the selections they offer. The restaurants at night are very good. The facilities are top notch and the staff are all very helpful. We did the bike ride around the property with one of the staff who gave us lots of information on the resort and not a hard bike ride. We also did a tour of the kitchens which was really interesting as to how they prepare all the food and see the kitchens in operation. You will have a great time in any building you get as the rooms are very spacious and the wifi in the room is good.

We've been there in April/May the last two years. The first time we were upgraded to a second floor Golden Suite in Building 8 and last time we stayed in a Jr. Suite in building 5. I really like 5 because you are right next to the main pool and beach. For us it really doesn't make a lot of sense to upgrade rooms because we don't spend much time there. Building 4 would my second choice for the Jr. Suites. We really love the Valentin as it pretty much has everything we would want in a resort with the exception of snorkeling off the beach. One small thing we liked was that if you are at the breakfast/lunch restaurant by the beach and there is something you'd like that isn't on the buffet just ask and they will usually make it for you if you ask. (Tips are appeciated of course) If you have other questions I'll be glad to try to answer.

You will have a great time in any building you get as the rooms are very spacious and the wifi in the room is good. Seems that is a common story in Mexico. I try to be very cavalier about what I expect when booking anything specific. In general, if you book ocean front you get ocean front, if you book garden view you get garden view. If you book a certain floor, or buidling, or bed type, you are taking your chances and may end up in a squabble with the front desk, which may or may not end in the result you are hoping for. Usually it ends with the desk manager telling you that if you just take the room they have given you and come back in the morning, they will get you in the room you want. The next day, you go back, they still cannot accomadate you, and, most often no one knows what you're talking about because you spoke to the night manager, and you will need to come back when he's on duty, which, sadly wont be til tomorrow because this is his day off. By the time you speak to him, you just don't care anymore and give up, which I think is the intent of that whole roller coaster ride to begin with.
