Our map of the Akumal Pueblo

On Sunday, May 6, 2012, my wife Babs and I enlisted the services of our friend Gerson, a waiter at Cueva del Pescador, who lives in the Akumal Pueblo, to help us draw a map of the Pueblo. The intent of the map is to show most of the businesses in the Pueblo that may be of interest to other tourists.
It is not a comprehensive map, nor is it drawn to exact scale. Since we did this on a Sunday, many of the smaller businesses were closed, but, when possible, we included the hours of operation.
While walking around the Pueblo that morning, several of the business owners asked Gerson what we were doing. When they found out that we were drawing a map to put on Locogringo that might possibly bring them more customers, they were delighted.
Several times we have been asked if we feel safe in the Pueblo. Babs and I have spent many hours there, and I stayed by myself in a room in the Pueblo for 10 days this past winter, and at no time have we ever felt anything but welcomed.

All mistakes are mine, and if anyone has any corrections to make, please do so.

Any questions, feel free to ask and I'l try to help if I can.

One of my favorite places to eat in the Pueblo is a small stand that is open only in the evening. One block #1 of the map, it is shown as "Hotdog & Hamburgers" at the top right of the block. It is run by a chef from one of the resorts and his wife, they open it in the evening around 7 pm after he gets home from his day job.

This photo is of the mixture of grilled pork, onions & peppers that he puts in a quesadilla.

But my favorite thing to eat there is the giant Hamburguesa.

One night I was feeling particularly hungry, so I ordered both the Quesadilla AND the Hamburger
Note that most Hamburgers are served with a thin slice of Ham on top of the actual burger.
Oh, and the cost? A mere 20 pesos each.

Thanks Badger - this map should help people realize there is more than than the main street to see in the pueblo and other places to eat.
BTW - the pork and pepers just made my mouth water!

Thanks, MM!

One other note, above the very top of block #7, where it says "Pharmacy w/ Clinic & Doctor", that is the very modern clinic where my wife Babs spent a day under the care of Dr. Vaquero last October when she had a problem with her insulin & blood sugar. Very professional care.

Tom, do want me to send you the photo or the actual food?
I actually ate all of the burger and a couple of bites of the quesadilla, but saved the rest for lunch the next day.

TT - right click on the map - a drop down menu appears - click on "save picture as" and save it to your computer.

Thanks Badger as others have said GREAT JOB and for taking the time to do the research.
Will definitely be going there in October. We have enjoyed Natys and Lucys2 when it was there, now there are lots more places to try out.

Great map Badger. Hope you don't mind me making it a FAQ. Anything we can do to help the people in the pueblo is great. Everybody should go visit these businesses. I'm sure they all appreciate the extra customers. I have never felt unsafe in the pueblo either and visit it several times on every trip. Everyone should go see what you are missing.

Actually, Tom, if you put some of ternb's "awesomesauce" on it, you probably could eat it.
BTW, you can also just right click on the map & then hit "Print".

Many thanks everyone for your kind comments, hopefully this will help more people explore the Pueblo.

Whale, I am honored that you chose to make this a FAQ!

Sundog, yes, your clothing donation was dropped off at Tequilaville and was much appreciated.

And, speaking of Tequilaville, here's a photo of their yummy bacon wrapped shrimp.

One other note: if you look at the right portion of Block #2 on the map, it shows a Cochinita Pibil stand, which is only open on Sundays. We couldn't stay around to try it on our last trip, but it is on our must-do list for the next trip.

Badger, I think 2 or 3 doors up from T'ville, (before the 1st intersection) is the 'chicken lady'. She cooks the flattened chickens and also now sells some fruit and veggies and spices! I don't see her in section 2

Here is a mission for all the folks going down there soon. Help fill in Badgers map. Go to the places he has highlighted and ask questions and fill in the blanks that he missed. Sounds like a great day exploring and eating some great foods.
We will do our best when we get there in October.

Jan, her stand is on the map, but marked only by "fruit & pollo", just above the Laundry on the map.
(BTW, when I was there by myself in January, I had my laundry done there & they did a great job.)
I had a hard time trying to write down very much detail and still having the print (hopefully) large enough to read.

CB, that is a great idea!
And, if possible, please take photos of the food to share here.
