Anyone have suggestions on where we should take 8 of us for our first night (Thanksgiving) in MX? We'll be staying in PDC the first night before heading to our resort Friday. Edd and I are bringing our big kids and a couple of boyfriends for their first time in our paradise. Ages 19-32

Fusion? Great atmosphere, very cool setting on the beach, fire show every night... I just haven't ever eaten there so I can't recommend it based on the food (I'm also not sure what the food prices are like). Oddly - as far as I know - the great restaurants in Playa aren't located on the beach. Here's some info about Thanksgiving events from last year: http://www.buyplaya.com/blogs/rob_kinnon/archive/2011/11/23/thanksgiving-in-playa-del-carmen-2011.aspx

LaTarraya. Right on the beach, bottom of Calle 2. Won't break you up, good food, cold beer and very good margaritas! Fish specialies and the fish is fresh. Lots of meals under 80 pesos. The garlic fillet is awesome! For a couple beers after dinner head down by the pier. Palapa Bar, on the beach, draft beer.

I would recommend Fusion not only for good food but their incredible atmosphere. Nothings welcomes you to paradise like an evening with your toes in the sand at Fusion.

Yes I agree...El Fogon is excellent altho not on the beach. The upr floor is great overlooking the street. The food is amazing, plenty of it and the drinks are delicious. It's a must try kind of place with repeat guests, locals and the bill wont empty your pockets. I always make it at least once during my stay in Mx.

We found Fusion a little loud, tight and to have REALLY uncomfortable weird chairs on the beach. If you want to squat for Thanksgiving... Food was OK For Thanksgiving, how about a cab or drive down to Puerto Aventuras late afternoon and walk around checking out the dolphin pens that the village is built around. Lower key and you and the family will actually be able to talk during your celebration. Pick any of the smaller restuarants. We like Massimo and Mangos or any in between. We have not had a bad meal or felt gouged by any of the smaller places in PA. You gotta see this town! Drive another 5 minutes and hit the Beach Club at Xpu Ha. We just keep going back. Puts the beaches in PDC to shame. Sit on the beach for the day, eat and drink. We went as a family of 4 several times and had snacks, lunch, cold beers, our college age kids consumed a bunch of tropical drinks and the bill was surprisingly low! You can always make it an earlier afternoon (or a day of it) and drive to Tulum and hit The Bistro on Ziggy Beach . Here is a place to truly give thanks for. The beach is beyond beautiful. Not a lot of developement. There are a couple of Cenotes that are right at the shore in the surf. Cool fresh water mixes with the warm Carib. The Pelicans dive all day long around the edges.

Which location has an upstairs? I've been to the one near Mega and the one near Wal-mart. (I know it's the other one.) quote:
