It's something you will never forget. I hope you get to see nesting and hatching. If there is anything at all happening they will find it! I can vouch for this!

With us going at the very end of June, are the odds in our favor to possibly see both? That would be so awesome.

The odds of seeing a nesting will be good, hatchings will be less numerous as that's a bit early. The gestation is 60 days and there are currently only 16 known nests laid. But you never know.........
Luck be with you!

Come on Momma Turtles!  I arrive in 70 days.  Am pulling for a lot of turtle laying action over the next 10 to 15 days!!!!  Hoping for a big year overall for nesting!

We just ordered 2 red flashlights from TurtleSafe for our upcoming trip. We love to take walks on the beach at night and have been very fortunate to have seen the turtles nesting on our previous visits.
Can't wait!

You'll love those TurtleSafe lights. They are the best I've seen or used by far for a handheld.
Good luck on your trip, hope you see some tortugas!

I just ordered two for our upcoming trip. We want to do some beach walking late at night, and don't want to disturb any turtle mamas, and we definitely don't want to accidentally step on babies leaving the nest.

The latest numbers update:

So far, we have 97 loggerhead nests and 27 green turtle nests!

It's looking like a strong and productive season!

O my goodness, I am crying just thinking about it!
We will be there for two weeks in August! I so hope that I get to see it....
I have loved turtles my entire life! I used to collect ceramic ones when I was a teen and into my early 20's.
I have a few special ones still kicking around.
we were in Akumal at Christmas and I just loved snorkeling near them... to see the babies racing to the water will be magical.
I hope, I hope, I hope!

sorry to be daft but what is BE Live?

they do nest on Aventuras Akumal beach - that being said they dont have much room towards the Bahai Principe Tulum as the hotel started mixing cement in with the sand to get rid of the turtles
Dont ask me how I know that - Not a fan of the politics down there

For those down there during the season - if you see anyone approaching turtles and your close - try to help educate them in the most quietest manner possible when Tortugas are around
I have seen so many turtles turn around and go back to sea to dump their 100 or so eggs in the sea because of Human ignorance and interferance
Don't be that person its really sad to snorkel and see the little golf size eggs in the water knowing what "was" is no more

Bahia and sascab after a hurricane. I remember that uproar well. There were some videos to back up the accusations. They claimed they were doing it to prevent beach erosion. No turtle can dig thru that stuff, it's hard as a rock.

Related old thread:   http://forums.locogringo.com/forums/tm.asp?m=662545&mpage=1&key=

Edit- I found the links to those videos but they've been removed. No surprise.

Hey Tom. How Do you tell the difference between a loggerhead nest and a green turtle nest? Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke!!

Be Live is the former Grand Oasis Riviera Maya (GORM). I have heard the name changed again, not sure if it's back to GORM or what.

Just returned from a week at ABR - There were at least 3 new nests each morning in front of Bldgs 6 & 7, many more further south on the beach. The large nests are the green turtles. Night turtle walks are available from CEA (limit to ten) during the week. Oasis Tulum is the previous Grand Oasis and Be live resorts. Trip report to be posted in the next few days.

I heard from Mariano today. For those who don't know, he is the Marine Turtle Protection Coordinator at CEA and runs the actual hands-on program for nests on the beaches.

He told me there are so many nests that the nesting mommas are actually having to search a bit to find a suitable place to nest. That is AWESOME!!!! It sounds like another record year in the making.
