Up early the next morning to a wonderful sunrise.

View from Room 547

Anticipation is high as we head down to the beach with our snorkel gear. Being old (but not wise by
any means) I bought some snorkeling vests. They are great. You fill them up with just as much air as
you need to keep afloat with ease. There’s a quick release valve that you can use to empty out
the air if you want to dive down. I highly recommend them. I got them from Snorkel 101 online.

After a quick lesson to my spouse (she was pro in no time), we were off. I had snorkeled
off the shore by the lol-ha a couple of times in the past to see the turtles. At that location
there are turtles but not a lot more… here off the shore from the ABR there is a huge variety
of sea life and I get the impression I'm swimming in an aquarium the water is so clear.
With the bright sun and clear water visibility is excellent.

Prettiest thing I saw in the Ocean...

It’s so exciting and exhilarating that you don’t really feel any fatigue. But after a few hours we
headed back to the beach and I realized I was exhausted and extremely thirsty!!.

The beer at the resort is Dos Equis and they have the taps turned at the snack bar so it’s serve
yourself. The glasses are small and plastic Thanks for all the LG folks who gave me advice on
the bubba mug.. The trip wouldn’t have been as good without it..

At other resorts I have stayed at the draft beer had a skunky taste to it (unclean lines,
not kept cold.). This was NOT the case at the ABR as it was cold and fresh.

Beach Looking South from between the Snack Bar and the Moonrise Bar

Approaching nirvana now the only downer being an older guy in a thong walking past.
‘To my future’ I toast. (Couldn't bring myself to take a picture.. sorry)

That afternoon we explore our little Shangri la, paying homage to the webcam on the way.

Note Bubba Keg.. Thanks again LG!!!

Got an AT&T worldwide card to call home very cheap and very clear.. great if you want to call a lot of people or talk for a while without worrying about the bill....but you gotta find a payphone.

After some relaxin’ on the balcony is was time for another wonderful meal.
Wanted to stay up for some heavier drinkin’ but wanted to rise early for more snorkeling.

Great snorkeling this morning but it looks like I don't have the skills to make it all the way out
to the breakwater but that'll give me something to shoot for next time.

Feeling totally at peace with my surroundings I indulge in a few more beers/drinks/cocktails today and notice a few more people around the resort and Mexican flags everywhere. The staff informs me that it's
Mexican Independence Day and I get another drink in tribute.

Take a walk up up to the Pueblo and it's a blast. Everyone is in great spirits as the holiday approaches.
I get a beer at a local grocery store and find out mass is Saturday at 5:00.

Strange drunk on street corner Akumal Pueblo 2011.

Stroll back and checked out the old cannons that once protected the bay. It's a different
world over here on this side with the iron shore and heavy surf.

El Gato Negro

No Prisoners!!!!!

Dinner was a blast as we're greeted with 'SHOT SHOT SHOT' from the
staff. (Like they have to shout,, I've never turned down one).

A SHOT you say Senor??

Wanted to go for a dozen but tomorrow we're off to Coba.

Zeppelinman:  This is the best note of your trip report so far:  "

Approaching nirvana now the only downer being an older guy in a thong walking past.
‘To my future’ I toast. (Couldn't bring myself to take a picture.. sorry)"

Too funny.  Made me laugh out loud!!!!

Hey - you had our room! We loved it. Bed was a bit lumpy but I didn't seem to notice for long. And you can hear the oceans' roar with the sliding door left open.
Next time building 4 is unavailable I might ask for building 6. A bit quieter I think.
Great report. Looking forward to the next installment.

Hope he just "winged" your drinking hand ...
and that that strange drunk didn't follow you the whole trip! :)
