Needless to say, Kay and I have been very busy. Sorry for the delay posting. Our connection has been off and on so meanwhile we have been out and about surveying the damage and getting a handle on who is going to be ready for tourism and when. Today's report was very encouraging. I want to say this. From our perspective, the response to hurricane Wilma from the Quintana Roo state government, the municipality of Solidaridad, the CFE (power company), and TelMex (telephone company) has been swift, effective and very helpful to the people who are trying to put their lives back together. Here in North Akumal we have phones, broadband Internet and power, off and on, but mostly on. We hear that parts of Playacar and Playa del Carmen have services restored. Reports from farther north might be elsewhere on these forums. We hear helicopters passing overhead every few minutes bringing aid to Cozumel and points north. Here in Akumal, locals and even a few tourists are helping clean up. Thank you to ALL who are working to repair the damage and help those in distress. As for points south of Playa del Carmen, we are seeing a rebound from this disaster faster than we had ever imagined could be possible. We WILL be back in the game for this high season, you can bet on it! I do want to post some images of the events we have experienced the last few days. These are still images from Quicktime movie clips we have taken. Try not to get too upset because things are already being repaired at a feverish pace as you will see in the coming days. The following hurricane Wilma pictures were taken during the storm on the 21st and 22nd of October. Please scroll down post for after the storm pictures. Click here for links to more after the storm pictures and information. In front of Akumal Dive Shop Stay tuned and don't freak out. You won't believe the progress that has been made in just one day! If you need to download Quicktime to view these movies click here, then click FREE DOWNLOAD NOW. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html Here are a couple Quicktime storm movie clips. http://www.locogringo.com/hurricane/wilma/duringthestorm/PA210007.MOV http://www.locogringo.com/hurricane/wilma/duringthestorm/PA210011.MOV

Just amazing -- heads are shaking up -- Mother Nature is clearly in charge, and apparently has a soft spot for Akumal. -- S

This amazes me!! Those photos are incredible. I especially was amazed with the photos of the Mexican people. They still can smile after all they have been through. They are a big part of why we keep going back to Mexico!!! Thanks for the photos....very encouraging.

The place is cleaning right up. The pictures from the day of the storm made Akumal look like a disaster, but the new pictures are certainly much more promising. It was great to see the smiles on the mexican peoples faces after having to face such destruction. What great spirit these people have. AWESOME

What amazing pics Gary - thanks for taking the time to post them. Akumal Bay and Aventuras Akumal both look great - what's the situation with the beach at HMB. One of the recent threads said the beach was gone? I remember, after Emily, you said the beach was actually wider! The people are awesome to be able to start cleaning up so quickly after the event.

Wow! Thanks for sharing this Gary. We are glad to know Akumal is doing so well considering. It looks just beautiful so shortly after the storm. Amazing. We thought the authorities did a really great job after Roxanne and they doing an amazing job again. FEMA could learn something from the Mexican Government!!!! Now let's just hope the people further north past PDC in the Colosio and Mayan Villages will get lots of help for a quick recovery because they are not doing well at all from what I saw on Mexican TV Noticiero Gala Vision this morning. I had tears in my eyes. Up North, Cozumel and Isla Mujeres got hit so much worse.

Gary, many thanks for taking the time to post the report, photos etc. It totally amazes me how quickly Akumal has kicked back - great to see and obviously the people need things back to normal asap. We very much want to still have our holiday at ABR from 15/11, so are keeping everything crossed! It still looks beautiful in our eyes! Thanks again for the updates.

Thank you so much Gary for posting the pictures and video. Unbelievable!! I can't believe how much they endured and how quickly they've turned things around. I'm absolutely amazed. <a href="http://www.TickerFactory.com/"> <img border="0" src="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/4;10731;80/st/20060308/e/Akumal+%26amp%3B+Tankah/k/10b7/event.png"></a>
