We weathered Wilma just fine last night in our house in North Akumal between
Yal ku lagoon and Half Moon Bay. The wind howled all night and is still is raging outside our door. The water level surged about 1.5 feet (half a meter) and even this has subsided now. I went outside a few minutes ago to take some pictures. These are a bit blurry with all the flying rain. Actually there is suprizingly little rain so far. We are on a battery backup system which should keep us going for some time. When the wind dies down somewhat we will try to get more pictures. Thanks everyone for your well wishes. Check in later for more from N. Akumal.

Kay and Gary

OMG, Gary, I couldnt believe it when I saw you'd posted. Things look awful, but they could be worse, right? I sure hope the wind stays 'died down' and the water stays back. You guys have been hammered enough!

Gary/Kay, thanks for the update. Hang in there. I can't believe you stayed.

When you say the water 1.5ft, was this at your place? I ask, because I own at La Sirena.

Ba careful Gary. One news source is saying that the eye is 65 kms wide and because it is moving slowly it (the calmer eye) could take 6-7 hours to pass, thereby making some people think the worst is over...when it's not!!

Hi Kay & Gary... good to hear that things are relatively OK so far... fingers crossed. We heard from Roberto last night and the storm surge seems to be the big concern for now with ground floor units in the condo buildings being most affected. I know the pictures are scary, but they're also quite beautiful in a way...

Keep the news coming as long as you can...

I can't believe you are still in North Akumal. I'm watching the weather channel, and their saying Cozumal will take a direct hit. I hope the conditions in Akumal don't worsen and those who stayed behind and are in shelters are safe. Good luck, Hop from Big Creek, CA.

We are not out of the woods yet. It seems we may get or near miss the south edge of the eyewall. Wilma is over Cozumel now and as you know the south end lighthouse is dircetly across from Akumal. CNN has been communicating with us and I have shot some video with my camera, hope to shoot more if weather permits. Apparently we may be on Wolf Blitzer situation room this 4-5pm live by phone, not sure yet.

We are hoping for the best at this moment for our good friends in Puerto Aventuras, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Cancun... all point north and south for that matter.

Hey there guys! Checkin' in and I love the hair Kay! I'll bet it even looks great windblown. It's been a long time since March, but we think of you often, especially now. Please be safe. We look forward to future Easter Egg hunts in Quintana Roo, or at least cervezas and more tatoos! Thanks for the photos and updates.

Thanks for the update as it lets us know you & Kay are safe. I heard on the radio CBC that Cozumel just took a direct hit.

God speed that Wilma gets the &**^ out of there
