The Tulum Government has banned "rave parties"

Every January, attendees from all over make the journey to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico for The BPM Festival.

However, over the past years, seasoned partiers have expanded beyond the officially designated BPM city and instead, find their way to Tulum throughout the duration of BPM. Tulum is a city about an hour south of Playa Del Carmen which hosts several unofficial offset parties that have gone on to make an impression of their own over the years.

Unfortunately, 2016 might have been the last hurrah for Tulum party goers as the government has issued an official ban on "rave parties". According to Roberto Palazuelos Badeux, president of the Association of Hotels of Tulum, increased traffic and the late night, early morning nature of the parties are negative consequences that disrupt the peaceful, relaxed environment that the city hopes to maintain for hotel guests and visitors.

Despite the city's rising popularity as a coveted party destination, Badeaux emphasized that Tulum was meant to be a quiet vacation spot for tourists on holiday.
